You merely adopted the strikeout to walk ratio. I was born of it, molded by it. |
Bane’s Bat Breakers rebounded nicely from week 1 struggles
against the scuffling Team No Idea. This one was won on the bump, with Bane
sweeping the pitching categories, a balance of QS and SV, and an impressive K/9
of 9.477. No Idea didn’t have a bad week at the plate, but a tie in HR and SB
and a loss of OBP led to them falling short. They’ll look to get one in the win
column next week after an 0-2 start.
MVP: Andrew Cashner-
12 IP 0.00 ERA 10.5 K/9. Cashner had a dominant two start week, giving up no
earned runs. Putting 15 men on base in the process isn’t ideal, but sometimes
you live dangerously and it pays off.
LVP: Asdrubal Cabrera-.107 OBP, 0R 0SB, 1RBI The Tampa SS/2b
really let down the side, tanking the ratios and contributing nothing besides
an RBI to counting categories. Unfortunately, replacements at middle infield
are few and far between.

Hitting ALL the baseballs. |
Two offensive juggernauts ran into each other at full-steam
in this match, with the two teams combining for 16 homers and 82 RBIs between
them. Ultimately, the edge went to the Sackers here in large part due to the
advantages of a strong stable of closers, namely high K/9 and K/BB numbers with
a large number of saves, which the OVPLC punts. This offensive performance
would have been enough to put Omar’s team over the top most weeks, with 8 QS
and a strong 2.8 ERA being one of the best this period, but they fell just
short to get the W.
MVP: Howie Kendrick-.538 OBP .909 SLG 2HR. Steven Souza
could have ended up with this after his own break-out offensive performance,
but Kendrick’s .9 SLG and .538 OBP spoke not just to power but also to
consistent hitting production.
LVP: Matt Garza-.88 K/BB, 1.80 WHIP, 6ER. Tough to pick a
starter as LVP when Omar won QS and ERA, but Garza really didn’t help and
tanked the K/BB ratio, which could have helped get this one a little closer.

Am I clean now? You'll have to wait to find out... |
We’re going to wear out the kissing your sister graphics if
this keeps up. Another draw here in week 2, this time with powerhouses Bowling
Overhand and Cleveland Wahoos ending up tied. I mean, there were people who
played a role in determining the outcome of this game, but let’s be real for a
second. Nelson Cruz. Good god. 6 homers. 10 RBI’s. He very nearly took the
offensive categories all on his own. Thankfully, the BO pitching managed to
pull enough out from that side to keep the draw intact, or this could have
ended up a solid loss for them.
MVP: Nelson Cruz. Because duh.
LVP: Annibal Sanchez. 9.2 IP, 13.03 ERA. The Detroit starter
really struggled, and marred an otherwise solid pitching week. Without him,
this would have went Cleveland’s way.

The cornerstone of Danger Zone's success. |
The D train was docking in the Danger Zone for this game
(this is the writing you get after Da Commish had to wake up 4 times to take
care of a baby. Deal with it.) While not stellar in any area, Danger Zone
managed to take victories in both pitching and hitting categories for a solid
victory. 13 stolen bases certainly pops off the box score. As far as the DLA
goes, a balance of 6 QS and 6 SV in a week will likely be good enough on most
weeks to net you at least one if not two categories, but this week just wasn’t
meant to be.
MVP: As will be the case every week Danger Zone wins from
now on: Alex Rodriguez: 3 HR, 7R, 5RBI. The DLA shocked the world and broke the
heart of Sawks fans everywhere by picking up perennial fan favorite, A-Rod. We
at Yankees nation applaud this choice, and welcome him to the fold.
LVP: Jose Quintana-If it was last year, at least 10IP would
help in a counting category. This year, an 8.1 ERA and a 2.33 K/BB walk rate
will hurt you every time.

Some Empire pitchers had a tough week... |
The Empire were Dragon Slayers this week, taking down
newcomer Chad Cuda’s team 9-3. While neither team will be bragging about these
results any time soon, the dark siders managed to be slightly less mediocre and
put together a solid win despite a late Sunday rally that pulled the game
temporarily to a 6-6 draw. Disaster nearly struck on the pitching side, with a
two-start week for Carlos Carrasco getting cut short after one out with a
comebacker to the face. Add to that hot-headed Yordano Ventura’s ejection in
the fourth for throwing at Brett Lawrie, and the pitching situation looked grim
all week long. Unfortunately, the Dragons were let down by 6 starters finishing
with ERAs over 4. Hopefully both can put it together next week, or neither will
be seeing the win column any time soon.
MVP: Masahiro Tanaka-The Japanese starter silenced some of
the doubters this week, pitching 7 scoreless and finishing with a K/9 of 10.3
and a K/BB of the always popular INF.
LVP: James Paxton- Most of the Dragon starters were poor,
but Paxton’s 12 ERA and WHIP of 2 really stands out as abysmal.
Trophies:
Tiger Blood: Evil Empire
Lighter Side of Sports: Jon Lester
Gehrig: Yoenis Cespedes, Jose Abreu,
Sandman: David Robertson,
El Sombrero de Oro: Brandon Moss, Chris Davis
Dirty Fuentes: Jason Grilli
