Just a fun fact for your perusal.

In a bottom versus the top match-up, this one had all the makings of an upset mid-week, but a strong effort from BO paired with a fade of the Empire’s bats led to the solid win on Sunday. The Empire’s charge was led by solid pitching, though they were edged out in IP and QS. Both teams showcased power and speed, with 11/9 and 10/6 homers and steals between the two teams. It looks like the Empire may have turned the page on their skid (though playing The Most Interesting Team in the League™ and Yakey Sax on concurrent weeks won’t help get them out of the hole any time soon.) Meanwhile, Bowling Overhand takes over the first place over-all slot in the league.

In his spare time, he does this to stray cats in his neighborhood.

The Yakety Sax train keeps rolling, and the team on the tracks in Week 8 was the Cleveland Wahoos. A very strong pitching performance was key to fending off some good offensive output from the team from Cleveland (.3955 OBP, 12 HR, 6SB.) The edge in the pitching stats could have been tipped when Johnny Cueto finally showed signs of mortality, getting hit-around by the Nats for 6 ER in 5.1 IP. The trade of the season is, frankly, the Sackers faith in Edwin Encarnacion, and he is certainly paying off by slugging the crap out of the ball at every opportunity. Rob’s team shows no signs of slowing down, and the AL pennant could be all but locked-up by the All-Star Break.

Editor’s Note: The author is in no way trying to jinx Yakety Sax. It would be foolish to think so.

MVP: Edwin Encarnacion 5HR, .920 SLG

The Danger Zone pitching philosophy.

The latest team to find themselves in the Danger Zone was the Fightin’ Vizquels. Putting together an absurd 104 IP to get a by comparison paltry 6 QS would normally be a recipe for failure, but the disappearance of the Vizquel offense led to a pretty easy win. Francisco Liriano’s 10ER 10IP effort for the DZ pretty much epitomized the DZ gameplan, which is working despite leading to a middle of the pack season ERA of 3.5. Tough to argue with the results, as they are currently in 3rd place overall.

One of the best young pitchers in baseball. So, Dr. James Andrews is penciling him in for an appointment as we speak
.
Always an awkward week for Pat, the DLA took on No Idea in a battle of bats versus pitchers. 55 IP with an ERA of 1.940 and a K/9 of 10.2 was a truly astonishing pitching line, rendering an otherwise pretty good pitching effort from the opponents moot. The DLA offense sputtered a bit (apparently Troy Tulowitzki was tired) but by taking steals and tying on runs, they managed to put together enough categories to get a win.

Who's not worth a draft pick now?

The Royal Rooters managed to compete on the offensive side this week, but has continued to struggle at the bump. Deathvalley Demons, meanwhile, put together a very strong 71 IP with 2.90 ERA effort. Their offense was led by Nelson Cruz’s very potent power output, slugging 4 homers this week.

MVP: Nelson Cruz 4 HR, .536 OBP, 1.14 SLG
LVP:  Yovani Gallardo 3.1 IP 10.8 ERA 5.40 K/9

  1. I was about due to have an off week. Going in to that week I had the best whip and a top three ERA and then my staff anchors decided it was time to give up 7 runs every game. Liriano is on his last legs with me at this moment, and might yet become an offensive player.

I mean this week I have 65 ip on Friday and an ERA of 1.8 and a whip of 1.13, so it was an aberration more than a trend. I was leading the league in whip and was top four era going into last week.

To summarize and TLDR: Last week was a week to forget in terms of my pitching lol.
