Things are starting to heat up in the league, though our
records indicate that none of our managers managed to get ejected last week
(putting them 3 behind the Red Sox from one day of play against Tampa.)

E5 is honestly getting bored of hitting homers at this point. |
The good news is, things are starting to turn around for the
Empire. The bad news is, it’s happening during the weeks they play the number 1
and 2 teams in the league. Fueled mainly by Edwin Encarnacion’s record-setting
month of May, Yakety Sax has continued to be a juggernaught (bitch) up to this
point, and week 9 was no exception. They were given probably the stiffest
challenge in a while, however, from an extremely strong pitching outing from
the Empire. E5 fueled an offensive explosion, leading to a final tally of 12 HR
and 40 RBI’s for the Sackers at the end of the week. The Empire was let down by
their closers getting a grand total of 1 save opportunity in the entire week
and failing to get even 1 SB on the last day of play to try and tie the game
up. Oh well, at least things get easier next week when the Empire takes on…the
third place team in the league.
@#$#
MVP: I mean, how can it be anybody but Edwin Encarnacion.
5HR 10RBI 1.125 SLG
LVP: The entire Empire bullpen.

The Wahoos were strong on both sides of the ball this week,
posting good offensive and pitching stats. While not a dominant performance in
the ratio stats, the Wahoos have done well in the counting categories,
recording 10 SB, 7 QS, and 47 Runs. Johnny Cueto’s brief burst of mortality
went away, with two dominant starts recorded. 13 HR and 60 RBI’s for the Vizquels
was impressive, but not quite enough to get the job done in Week 9.
MVP: Johnny Cueto 13.0 IP, .66 ERA, 1 ER
LVP: Adam Wainwright 4.1 IP 14.4 ERA

The next team to enter the Danger Zone was the DVD, and came
to find that they couldn’t quite handle the Kenny Loggins-y goodness. As their
manager insists on pointing out (weekly,) their streaming strategy has been
much more effective than perhaps this author has given credit. 112 IP with 14
QS and an ERA of about 2 is certainly evidence to the effectiveness of whatever
it is they’re doing. A strong power performance from the men of Death Valley
and a strong offensive performance overall wasn’t quite enough to get the job
done, but bodes well for their future fortunes.
MVP: Tim Hudson 14.0IP 0.00 ERA 7.07 K/9
LVP: I mean, other people underperformed, but tough to
overlook Travis Wood’s 2.1 IP and 23 ERA.

All these pitchers with hurt UCL's, and this guy is still fine. Go figure. |
The RR bats simply vanished this week. A .290 OBP and .330
SLG is a bad week for an individual player, let alone a whole team. Meanwhile,
the DLA is still rolling along, putting together good but not great offensive
numbers backed with dominant pitching. 63 IP and 6 QS with a sub 3 ERA is going
to do well for you most weeks, and will really get the job done when your
opponent only records 34 IP.
MVP: Chris Sale 12 IP .75 ERA 9.75 K/9
LVP: Brian Dozier .161 OBP, .207 SLG

Defying this author’s preseason predictions, the Most
Interesting Team in the World™ has struggled in the ERA and WHIP department
over the last several weeks. This will probably start to cost them eventually,
but this week was not that week. Their offense was simply overwhelming,
recording 18 HR with 9 SB and 61 RBI’s, which would have won in just about any
match this week. No Idea had a very nice pitching week, but BO managed to tie
QS and SV while out IP’ing No Idea, managing to overturn the good performance
and get the relatively easy win for Joe.
MVP: Josh Donaldson 4
HR 12 RBI’s, .857 SLG
LVP: If anybody’s seen Chris Davis, I’m sure Nicole would
appreciate it if you would direct him to the ballpark. .080 SLG, .115 OBP, 0
HR. This is a long way from what she spent a draft pick on.

...Brian Robertson?
ReplyDeleteAfter Sunday he lost the rights to his first name.
ReplyDeleteOr I was tired, and I went back and fixed it.
Just keep flinging mud at the wall that is my plan. I love me some advance pitching metrics, they really help.
ReplyDeleteAlmost picked up Masterson yesterday because his FIP and XFIP were significantly lower than his era, but he burned me too many times and the Red Sox had been hot. QS low whip and 10 ks later I was right, oh well we can't catch em all unless we play pokemon.
