Welcome to the week 1 wrap-up, which saw several close
matches and a near upset of the champs. Let’s dive right in!
Wahoos 9-Evil Empire 3
This one started out the same way it finished up, with the
Wahoos jumping to an early lead. Mid-week the Empire’s bats came to life and
drew it to 6-6, before Cleveland pulled away. Jay Bruce and Matt Holiday didn’t
help by not showing up for most of the week. One thing that never really
wavered was the dominance of the Wahoos pitching staff.
MVP Johnny Cueto: 1.93 ERA 14IP 10.9 K/(
DL All Stars 7 - Fightin’ Visquels 5
In what was the game of the week, the new guy managed to nearly
upset the reigning champ. Neither team had a great week for OBP, offset by lots
of power for both. The DL-All stars won through scoring a massive total of runs
and surviving blow-ups by several of his starters to take Quality Starts and
WHIP.
MVP Chris Sale 15 IP
1.76 ERA 2QS .72 Whip
Mike Ehrman-Trout 7 - Deathvalley Demons 5
Another close one, this game came down to the last at-bat. Neither
team could hit for beans, frankly, with OBPs in the neighborhood of 310 and MET
only putting together a .333 SLG. 11 HR for the Demons helped them out a lot, but
strong pitching won the day for MET.
MVP Evan Longoria .467 OBP, .560 SLG, 5R (though this was
definitely a team effort by MET)
Royal Rooters 10 - Yakety Sax 2
This game was pretty one-sided all the way through, unfortunately.
RR showed some good speed but struggled in the other categories. BJ Upton
continues his excellent hitting pace from last year (.083 OBP And Slg) and even
Edwin Encarnacion didn’t have a particularly good week, leading to his
benching. Mark Trumbo, by contrast, is going to get a restraining order from
opposing pitchers if he keeps crushing it the way he did this week. RR will
hope to bounce back next week.
MVP Mark Trumbo 5HR,
7R, 13 RBI
Bowling Overhand 5 - Team No Idea 7
This was pretty obviously a tale of teams that were focused
on winning different categories. NI took most of the hitting categories while
Bowl took most of the pitching. Neither team had a great week, really, and
several categories ended up very close (.3145 v .3287 OBP, 9.353 v 9.262 K/9.)
I imagine both teams will want another crack at each other when they face off
again Week 9.
MVP Torii Hunter .444 OBP 1.00 SLG, 3 homers and 7 RBIs

I think the MET - Deathvalley match up was pretty cool because it literally came down to Seagers at bat in the ninth, as MET had just regained OBP when Smoak recorded an out in the eighth to swing it back to 7-5 from 6-6. If Seager generates an out there, game over for the good guys. Watched that live on gamecast with much anticipation.
ReplyDeleteI wish Mark Trumbo played for Colorado.
