Week 3 is in the books, and it had a little bit of
everything. This was a good week for pitchers, with three recording shut-outs
(well, 4, but one of them wasn’t rostered) and some games that were much closer
than their final score would indicate. This week also saw a controversial
trade, with the RR pulling the rip-chord on E5 in exchange for Angel Pagan,
leading to the return of the time-old truism that we do not veto trades unless
there is obvious collusion. This was just a gamble, and so far it seems to be
working out.

A piss poor performance all-around by the Empire this week,
as their bats went ice cold for the majority of the match-up. Neither team
could hit a lick, frankly, but dominant pitching paired up with 15 runs scored
on Sunday for the Vizquels turned it into a blow out at the wire. Karma
balancing out for the commish putting the name on as punishment for a
mis-draft? Perhaps.

Aftermath of this match-up led to police in riot-gear mounting horses to combat old-timey fans. Apparently. |
-To quote the Royal Rooters manager “The thing I hate is, if
I was playing ANYBODY ELSE, I’d have won this week.” The Rooters are getting a
good indoctrination to the joys of fantasy, including running headlong into the
train when you are having a good week scoring but your opponent flat-out can
not be beatean. BO showed again why they have one of the most dominant teams in
the league, but even still this one came down to the wire, with the separation
in some categories only being a difference of 3R, 1 HR, .0006 points of OBP, and
2/3rds of an IP, 1 QS, etc. etc. Easily the match-up of the week

How I imagine Yakey Sax takes the field every game. |
-The curse whenever Yakety Sax plays the DL All Stars
continued this week. The pitching match-up showed the results of what I’m
calling a brute force versus finesse method game, with one team clearly running
away with IP and hoping to win the counting stats without hurting themselves in
the ratios. It went agains the Sax this week, as the strong DL All Star
pitching recorded 8 QS on 20 less IP. Neither team could slug to save their
lives despite a difference of 4HRs and 12 RBIs for the DL.
MVP: Troy Tulowitzki
.621 OBP (!!), .818 SLG, 8R, 6RBI
LVP: Grady Sizemore .120 OBP, .045 SLG, 1 (one) H (normally
I pick from the losing team, but good god.)

Dude, how many times did I strike out? |
-No Idea snatched victory from the jaws of defeat on the
last day. This was another brute force vs. finesse game, with similar results.
MET has some real speed with 12 SB this week. Decent performance across the
board paired with SV and good pitching gave NI the win despite a very low SLG
and OBP.

The big man finally got it going this week, with 2 homers. |
The Demons rebounded nicely by taking down the mighty Wahoos.
This was a 2 phase game of hitting for the Demons versus pitching for the
Wahoos. The Demons managed to eke out the win with strong performances in SB,
RBI, and pulling together a tie on QS to get the win.
MVP: Prince Fielder 2 HR, .467 OBP, 6R scored
LVP: Jose Valverde

Tons of established closers have struggled this year, reinforcing the dangers of drafting relievers early. Some have already fallen. Others are struggling but hanging on. So who's going down first?

Commish’s Note: Ironically, Veras made it out of the week,
and Jose Valverde, not included in the poll, will probably be the first to take
